A ATUALIDADE DO MÉTODO DE JOSUÉ DE CASTRO E A SITUAÇÃO ALIMENT AR MUNDIAL

Resumo

No cinqüentenário da Geogrcifia dafome, é interessante constatar que as duas contribuições metodológicas básicas de Josué de Castro são hoje de grande atualidade no estudo dos problemas alimentares. O panorama da situação alimentar mostra que o mundo não se encontra ameaçado pela escassez global iminente e que a subnutrição grave está em franca redu- ção. Entretanto, é grande o número dos que enfrentam a fome. São po- pulações que se concentram, sobretudo, no meio rural dos países em desenvolvimento. Um novo paradigma de pesquisa agronômica - a Revolução duplamente Verde - abre o caminho para que o aumento da produção agrícola seja, daqui para a frente, o principal meio de integra- ção das populações atingidas pela fome ao desenvolvimento. Mais que nunca, é importante estudar a fome sob o duplo ângulo geográfico e geopolítico.
